Required Reading: March 2013

Whew! February's Romantic-themed challenge was conquered, but reeling emotions still linger.  Talk about torrents of words and feelings in a single month.  So, you guys have to pardon me for being delinquent on blogging some bookish thoughts regarding last month's read.

For now, let's make a quick review of how last month's reading went.
  • Dead Stars by Paz Marquez Benitez  -3 stars
  • The Lover's Dictionary by David Levithan -3 stars
  • Attachments by Rainbow Rowell -5 stars
  • The Audition (Seraphina 0.5) by Rachel Hartman -4 stars
  • Power Study by Maria V. Snyder -3 stars.
  • The History of Love by Nicole Krauss -4 stars

You may have noticed (or not) that I have scratched 'The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao' and 'The Last Prince of Atlantis' from my original list; it's because the former was re-scheduled for a buddy reading, and the latter could hardly hold my attention for a full minute.  The good news, though, is that I was able to finish 'The Dracula Dossier' (3.5 stars). I am quite satisfied with last month and eager to start with March's required readings.

  • The Book Thief by Markus Zusak - I am rereading this, or rather, I am listening to this to re-jog my memory for the TFG F2F15 discussion on March 23. If you have read or currently reading this, do join us in our online discussion.
  • The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes - this one is scheduled for a buddy reading.
  • Gilead by Marilynne Robinson - is the book for F2F16, which I'll be moderating for April. I'll be reading ahead so that I may at least devise a decent reading plan and questionnaire. Wish me luck.
  • If there's time enough, I may add another book/s, as to which, I still have to figure out.

Summer vacation is just around the corner. I'm sure you too have plans to read while basking in the sunshine, so, stack those books now. Happy reading everyone!

    1. I'm excited too, with butterflies in my stomach. This is the first time I'd be discussing a man of God (in a manner of speaking)in a very different setting and POV.

  2. Wow, with whom are you buddy reading Julian Barnes? I'd love to reread this but my copy is lent to someone. Have fun in drafting your Gilead questions. See you on April!

    1. I'm to read it with Tricia, others might join too. You are welcome to butt-in anytime, of course.

      Thank you!

  3. See, I DL'ed and created that calendar, and yet I haven't had the time to post it in my blog. why is that?! Haha.

Need to check out History of Love and that series of Snyder. I loved her Insider series.

    Happy summer reading, Louize!

    1. You have 10 more months to go, no worries.

Having read "A Separate Peace", I'm sure you won't have a problem with "The History of Love". I have not tried the Insider series. I'd like to know what you think, since this is a leap from Dystopian to Fantasy.

Happy reading to you too, dear!

  4. I've been looking everywhere for a copy of The History of Love but still no such luck.

And yay, you will be moderating Gilead? I have my copy already and I can't wait to read it with the TFG gang. :) I just finished A Sense of an Ending and I liked it. I should have waited for the buddy read though. I think I might have liked it better if I have buddies to read it with. :D

    1. PM me your mailing address, Lynai. I have an extra copy, it's yours.

Thank you, Lynai. I am really hoping people will join the Gilead discussion. As for the A Sense of an Ending, it came highly recommended. I just hope I'll be a worthy buddy for Tricia on this.

  5. Oh, The Sense of an Ending! Actually, I'm curious as to what you'd think of it after you read it. I'm one of those people who couldn't make sense of that ending. Hehehehehehe.

    1. Hi Peter!
Hahaha, I am hoping to make a good sense out of it.
I'll make it a point to write a proper evaluation then.
Besides, I owe that much to the good friend who gave it to me.

  6. Yay reading list! I'm reserving The History of Love in case it wins the July discussion. Hihi. I'm also looking forward to Gilead, because Angus kept on pushing me to read it. :) More fun now, with the discussion coming up!

And I miss you, Ninang! See you this F2F, I hope? :)

    1. I'm sure a lot of people will be vying for The History of Love.
I am in knots every time I am reminded of Gilead, I don't want to disappoint people.

And I miss you too! (◠◡◠)
