Book Review | ILLUSIONS OF EVENTIDE by Sarah M. Cradit

Eventide follows the story of Nicolas Deschanel, heir of the great Deschanel legacy. Nicolas has always purported not to have a care in the world, but his bluff is called when the two people closest to him betrayed him. In the process of evaluating his life, he comes across Mercy, who claims to be in danger from an abusive ex. What Mercy cannot tell Nicolas is that she is, in fact, a three-thousand-year-old Empyrean, preparing for her Ascension. Her Inner Voice tells her Nicolas is the key, despite her reservations about spending any time with this spoiled, selfish Child of Man. As Nicolas takes her back to his family plantation, Ophelie, and friends from both sides come to aid, everyone's illusions will be called into question.

ILLUSIONS OF EVENTIDE is book two of The House of Crimson and Clover, written by Sarah M. Cradit.  In this installment, we are welcomed by Nicolas Deschanel’s determination to end his life in their vacation home in the Gulf of Mexico. But the sudden appearance of a troubled woman on the shore of his property, at eventide, derailed his plans. Nicolas was torn between playing the hero or the asshole to turn the woman away.

Mercy is a bundle of secrets, but so are Nicolas and his entire clan. In a matter of days, they will find out where all the secrets are from.

I haven’t had the chance to read the first book in the series. So when I started reading this, I have no expectations as to how the experience will turn out. I have to admit that I was fairly surprised by the exquisite storytelling. I read the entire book in just two sittings. Ms. Cradit is a gifted writer, weaving a new set of mythology, creating a new Nephilim-like and human history. I think that it’s genius.

Disclosing more information about the story may spoil everything, but there is no doubt that the story may spin in any direction, the possibilities are countless. Overall this is a series to look forward to. I recommend this series to those who appreciate awesome fantasy and romance.
